Coronado, an island across the bay from San Diego that is known for its pristine beaches, will cost California visitors more this summer than any other destination in the state. A recent survey conducted by LosAngelesHotels.org came to this conclusion after comparing all destinations of note in the Golden State.

In coming up with the rankings, the survey used the cost of each destination’s lodging during the months of July and August 2018 as its basis of comparison. Hotels with less than a 3-star rating and those with a less-than-desirable location far from the beach or city center were excluded.

Coronado tops the survey at an average overnight rate of $297 for its most affordable double room. Coming in just $5 cheaper in the number two position is the surfing mecca of Huntington Beach in Los Angeles’ southeast region. Rounding out the Top 3 is Santa Monica. An overnight stay in this beachfront hot spot’s least expensive room will cost a guest $254, on average, this summer.

Falling just outside the Top 3 in the survey’s number four slot is Palo Alto at a price of $252 per night, making it the costliest California destination without a beach. Also making a showing among the Top 10 most expensive California destinations are Napa and San Jose. Overnight rates of $231 and $226, respectively, for their least expensive available room puts these two destinations in the number eight and 10 spots.
