Apparently the search for the third judge on American Idol is still in effect.
Despite recently reporting that music producer Dr. Luke will be joining Keith Urban andJennifer Lopez for the reality TV gig, a source confirms to E! News that the celeb will no longer be a part of the Fox show due to conflict of interest. We're told that the music bigwig has since backed out given the amount of time the show requires and his other substantial commitments.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, Dr. Luke (real name: Lukasz Gottwald), signed a lucrative label deal with Sony Music in 2011, which creates a problem because he would be developing talent for Universal Music Group, Sony's competitor, as a judge on American Idol.
An insider close to the situation tells the publication that the hitmaker came to the realization that the commitment would simply demand too much of his time. "He really loves his artists and wants to build up the label," a source told THR.
Beyond the label's current projects, "Luke wants to build an entertainment company...after a lot of conversations, both Luke and Sony Music CEO Doug Morris came to the mutual agreement that taking Dr. Luke out of the Idolrunning was the best thing for all parties."
Fox had no comment.
