Everyone Should Do At Least One Canyon Hike

Dogs did it, physically fit couples did it, a couple in their 60’s were doing it too … and I’m proud to say that my husband and I also climbed the canyon at Squaw Valley over the weekend.  For those who’ve done a canyon hike, you probably know what that means.  But if you’ve never taken on the challenge – be forewarned – canyons tend to be intense, vertical and fairly unmarked – blue paint splotches were our only guides.  As this was in Squaw Valley and a 2,000 elevation hike that started at 6,000 feet – it was also ear-popping.  Although we didn’t make it all the way to the lake which was about 15 minutes past the canyon – I’m immensely proud and impressed that we conquered the canyon.  Our four-hour excursion put our appetites through the roof, so we celebrated with pizza and salad afterwards.  The next day, still dwelling within the conquered canyon glow, and because I just love Fall and also needed to do something with those Pumpkin Spice M&M’s … I made cookies and apple cider for a day-after celebration.  It’s hard to go wrong with chocolate chips, butter and M&M’s – see the picture for positive evidence.  It’s only the first of October – plenty of time to enjoy Fall hiking in Napa Valley and beyond!
