This holiday has me reflecting a bit on the time I spent out of the country.  After college, I sold all my earthly possessions and moved, by myself to Prague, Czech Republic, the former Czechoslovakia.  I lived there for three years, and wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world.  Part of the benefit of living outside of the US is the perspective it gives you on your own country, you see and appreciate things that we normally take from granted in our day-to-day lives.  The freedoms we are afforded, the access to fresh food, water, and other products, just to name a few.  I lived there after the Velvet Revolution, and while things were much better than they were of course under the communist regime, there was still along way to go.  As a foodie living in the Napa Valley, I am constantly amazed and appreciative of all we have access to here.  I vividly remember one day in Prague, walking in my local market and actually tearing up because they had added a new vegetable to the shelves!  Happy Fourth of July!
