A quarter-century into her career, Melissa Etheridge is finally taking the lead -- on guitar, that is.
The singer-songwriter, who's currently on tour promoting her new 4th Street Feeling album, tells New York's Journal News that she had never played lead guitar until very recently. She says, "It always seemed I was giving those lead guitar parts away. I was very timid and shy about my own guitar playing, even though it seemed to the world that I was not."
She explains that, "When I went in for this album, I said, 'I’m going to play all the lead parts. I’m playing the guitar!' And everyone’s going, 'Yeah? You’re a guitar player. We all know that.' So I think I learned something that everyone else already knew."
Melissa Etheridge wraps up this leg of her tour tomorrow (Saturday) in Milwaukee.
