Mindi Weekdays 2 - 6pm

Inspired by the music of The Beach Boys, Mindi left her childhood home of New Jersey to head to sunny California and has never looked back. Some of her career highlights are: publicist for The Mystic Theatre, English Teacher in the inner city, Marketing Manager for a dot-com, and her current gig as Marketing Director of City Winery Napa. She is also a freelance writer for such publications as the Marketplace Magazine and San Francisco Bay Guardian. She once sold all her earthly possessions and moved to Prague, Czech Republic all by herself. In her  "spare time" she likes to play drums and guitar in her band, Ohmygodyouguys, swim, cook, eat, crack jokes, and hang out with her pound puppy.  As host of Drive Time with Mindi, she is thrilled that both of her jobs primarily involve music and talking.

The holidays are upon us and it seems we are all running around like crazypeople.  More than ever, it's important to take care of ourselves, those we love, and those less fortunate than ourselves.  There are so many ways to do this, perhaps a lovely gift certificate from Greenhaus Spa (my favorite!) to give the gift of relaxation, serving food at the local food shelter, or dropping a toy off at the local Fire Station or Toys for Tots drop-off (lists on our website here).

In other news, I have a huge major change on the horizon! After four spectacular years at my beloved Uptown Theatre, I have a taken on a new challenge and opportunity with City Winery, which is a new venue coming to Napa, opening up in the NV Opera house space next year!  City Winery currently has locations in New York and Chicago, and are opening in Napa and Nashville next year.  The company was founded by the same person, Michael Dorf, who founded the legendary Knitting Factory in New York in the '80s.  They host everyone from Prince to Lou Reed.  You can also expect world class food and wine, and there's a charitable aspect as well with a huge emphasis on the locals.  Expect to hear a lot more about this in the new year

Happy Holidays and please remember those less fortunate this holiday season.

Fall is such a fabulous season...crispness in the air, leaves change colors, and the holidays kick in.  My big question of the moment: what should I be for Halloween? I have a few things in mind, if you have suggestions, please email me: mindi@winecountrybroadcasting.com.   This year, something very rare is going to happen - Chanukkah falls on the same day as Thanksgiving!  It is causing some media outselts to dub it Thanksgivukkah. It has happened only once before, and won't happen again for another - get this - 70,000 years! I'm already having fun seeing all the suggested dishes, such as Latkes topped with Cranberry Sauce and Turkey brined in Manischevitz.  (Here's a fun link if this idea intrigues you: http://www.buzzfeed.com/christinebyrne/thanksgivukkah

My Dad always used to ask me, "do you live to eat, or eat to live?"  There was never any hesitation in my answer, live to eat of course!!  Lucky for me, and all of us locals, we live in a bastion of food bounty.  The Napa Valley is ripe with fabulous restaurants, from the fanciest (French Laundry) to the hole in the wall (Val's).  In addition to loving to go out to eat, I love to cook! This skill has developed in the last few years and was largely inspired by none other than Rachael Ray, who really did convince me that anyone can cook. She was right.  Not saying I'm up there with Thomas Keller or anything, but I can put together a mean steak dinner, complete with my own recipe for a blue cheese reduction.  Of course, being the vain woman that I am...all that luxurious food does a number on the figure - that's where all the early morning trips to the gym comes in!  Necessary evil.

This was me just before a gig with my sometimes band, Ohmygodyouguys, in Berkeley. As I recall, I had been working all day, had the gig that night, got up the next day to manage the Uptown for a show with Buckethead the guitar god.  Of course, I can't complain, I am lucky to be able to do all that I do! There's never a dull moment, that's for sure!

Rock and roll never sleeps...but can it take a nap?  I kid of course!  As the summer continues on, so does the fun in and around Napa Valley.  I enjoyed a spectacular weekend that really started with a live broadcast from Chef's Market last Thursday, Jeff Bridges & The Abiders at the Uptown Theatre on Friday, Kenny Loggins also at the Uptown on Saturday, Walk For the Animals with The Deadlies on Sunday, and also SF Chefs.Food.Wine on Sunday.  Tonite I'm looking forward to what promises to be an unbelievable show with Vintage Trouble at Lagunitas in Petaluma.  Then tomorrow I'm donning my country duds for the Florida Georgia Line at the Sonoma County Fair (don't judge!).

It's hard to believe that August is already here!! Apparently, time really does fly when you're having fun!  I'm extremely excited to be broadcasting live tonite from the very last Chef's Market of the season starting at 5pm.  If you haven't been, tonite is your last chance to grab some great food, sip wine, catch chef's demonstrations, and spin our prize wheel!  The Grand Prize is a year's worth of concerts at the Uptown Theatre, one concert a month for a year.  Pretty phenomenal, right?!  I'd love to meet you in person so come on down and say hi - see you there!

Some days I feel I live, sleep, eat and breathe entertainment.  Okay, not really just some days, but every day! As the Marketing Director for the Uptown Theatre, I am steeped in entertainment, both working and playing.  As a Vine DJ, same thing goes. In addition, I'm an avid live concert goer and take in as many shows as I can.  In the coming month, I'm looking forward to seeing Jewel, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Marc Cohn and The Deadlies at the Uptown, the Russian National Ballet and Orchestra as part of Festival del Sole at the Lincoln Theatre, and Weezer at America's Cup Pavilion in San Francisco. When I'm not seeing live music, I can often be found taking in a movie , enjoying some regular old television, or reading a book, magazine or the internet.  What can I say? Viva la entertainment!

This holiday has me reflecting a bit on the time I spent out of the country.  After college, I sold all my earthly possessions and moved, by myself to Prague, Czech Republic, the former Czechoslovakia.  I lived there for three years, and wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world.  Part of the benefit of living outside of the US is the perspective it gives you on your own country, you see and appreciate things that we normally take from granted in our day-to-day lives.  The freedoms we are afforded, the access to fresh food, water, and other products, just to name a few.  I lived there after the Velvet Revolution, and while things were much better than they were of course under the communist regime, there was still along way to go.  As a foodie living in the Napa Valley, I am constantly amazed and appreciative of all we have access to here.  I vividly remember one day in Prague, walking in my local market and actually tearing up because they had added a new vegetable to the shelves!  Happy Fourth of July!

I truly feel as if I'm the luckiest girl in the world!  I get to live, work and play in one of the most gorgeous places on the earth, and they even pay me to do so!  As the Marketing Director for the Uptown, I get access to the world's best musicians and comedians on a weekly basis.  I get to work in the business of music, which is my first love.  In addition, I also get to be a DJ, which also lets me work in the business of music. I get to play music, talk about music, and work on music day in and day out, and I couldn't be happier.  When I have some spare time, which isn't much these days, I even play music in my band, Ohmygodyouguys.  My cousin is visiting from New Jersey and without three hours of being here, she was ready to pack her bags and move here! Who can blame her, Napa, and Northern California truly has it all. The food alone here is enough to seduce her, and let's not even get started on the wine!  We've had amazing meals at Tarla and C Casa, and we're just getting started! We've listened to incredible music and eaten fantastic food at the Courtyard Cafe of the Uptown for West End Wednesdays, tonite we'll wander around Chef's Market, this weekend take in more great music from the Deadlies at the Truck and Tractor Pull and then even more great music in the evening at the Uptown with Big Country and Berlin.  What else will the next week bring?
