Melissa Etheridge didn't wait long after the Defense of Marriage Act was overturned to announce that she plans to get married soon. She tweeted that she "look[s] forward to exercising my American civil liberties and getting fully, completely and legally married this year to my true love of over three years, Linda Wallem.”
She also told CNN, "I’m going to get married in the state of California. I woke [the kids] up this morning telling them the Supreme Court ruling on DOMA. I love everybody out there. It’s a great day.” She added that, "Love is love and America is beautiful...The over-200-year American experiment is still working."
Etheridge shares custody of two children with her former partner, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, and has two kids from her relationship with director Julie Cypher. Wallem is a TV producer, writer and actress whose credits include Whitney, Nurse Jackie and That '70s Show.
Etheridge later tweeted that her show tonight (Wednesday) in Delaware is being filmed by PBS for a special to be aired this fall.
