A luxury store in Switzerland has apologized to Oprah Winfrey after one of its sales people refused to let her look at a handbag, claiming it was "too expensive." Oprah says the incident took place in Zurich, where she was attending Tina Turner's wedding last month. "‘I go into a store and I say to the woman, ‘Excuse me, could I see the bag right above your head?’ and she says to me, ‘No. It’s too expensive',” Oprah told Entertainment Tonight, adding that the women suggested she look at cheaper bags. "I left the store but it proves that racism is still an issue."
According to England's Daily Mail, the incident took place at a store named Trois Pommes, whose owner,Trudie Gotz, was also a guest at Turner's wedding. Gotz has since apologized for her saleswoman's reaction, telling a Swedish newspaper that there'd been ‘a misunderstanding between her and Oprah.....I [think] her English was not quite as good as that of Oprah."
The bag in question was priced at nearly 40 grand. Oprah's net worth was recently estimated at three-billion dollars.
