k.d. lang is getting jazzed to make her Broadway debut -- in After Midnight, a musical based on the songs of jazz legend Duke Ellington.
She'll take over the role on February 11th, replacing American Idol champ Fantasia Barrino, who'll star starting on the show's opening night of November 3rd. lang, no stranger to torch songs, will perform such standards as "Stormy Weather," "I Can't Give You Anything but Love" and "I've Got the World on a String."
k.d. tells the New York Times, "I've been listening to great jazz singers lately and wanting to go in that direction. So the idea of singing Ellington, and working with Wynton Marsalis, seemed an auspicious opportunity. It's challenging. It's something outside my comfort zone. But it's an opportunity to grow artistically."
