Carole King has been named MusiCares Person of the Year for 2014. The iconic singer-songwriter, a four-time Grammy winner, will be honored at an L.A. gala on January 24th, two nights before the Grammy Awards.
James Taylor, Steven Tyler and Bette Midler will be among those performing in her honor, along withThe Dixie Chicks, Lady Gaga and Jason Mraz. King's longtime producer Lou Adler is among the event's chairs.
Recording Academy and MusiCares president and CEO Neil Portnow says, "Her contributions as a songwriter and performer have truly changed the landscape of pop music, and her philanthropy speaks volumes about her generosity and personal passions."
Carole King has returned to the spotlight the past couple of years with the 2012 publication of her memoir A Natural Woman, her becoming the first woman to win the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song last spring, and the development of her autobiographical musical Beautiful that's set to open on Broadway on January 14th.
