Kelly Clarkson has finally thrown in the towel in her fight to hang onto a very expensive ring.
Kel had paid about $250,000 for the historic bauble, once owned by English author Jane Austen, but the British government stepped in soon after to void the sale -- saying that it should remain in the country because of its significance to the culture. The deal was that if the Jane Austen Museum could raise enough cash to outbid Kelly, it would get the ring. And it did, thanks to a huge anonymous donation from a fan of Austen's writing.
Kelly took the loss in stride, saying, "The ring is a beautiful national treasure and I am happy to know that so many Jane Austen fans will get to see it."
