Rodney Dangerfield may be gone (he died in 2004), but the comic legend is certainly not forgotten. Most notably, by his wife, Joan Dangerfield, who is constantly reminded of her late husband every time she opens the refrigerator.
That's because she has a Tupperware container that contains his...sweat!
"I discovered that Elvis [Presley] had a handkerchief that was apparently stained with his sweat and it went for a lot of money," Joan explained to The Hollywood Reporter. "So Rodney had a 'Eureka' moment. He said, 'I sweat more than anybody!' My sweat has to be as good as Elvis' sweat, right?'"
She continued, "My job became the 'sweat collector.' I'd take a sponge and spoon and collect his sweat — about an inch at a time. I thought we could water it down, but he said, 'No, that wouldn't be right.'"
The couple eventually approached the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, where Rodney frequently performed prior to his death at 82, about selling the perspiration in perfume-sample bottles.
"They said, no, we couldn't offer that sweat," Joan recalled. "They said there was an insurance issue. Rodney was crestfallen."
And while the fluid normally stays in the Tupperware container, Joan, 60, reveals that she will transfer the sweat to a crystal decanter on special occasions.
"It means a lot to me," she said. "I do know how hard he worked to make people laugh."
