It's looking more and more like Clay Aiken is set to run for Congress.
Clay, who got millions of folks to vote for him in the American Idol balloting some years back, has been scoping out his chances in an even bigger election -- to represent his North Carolina district in the House of Representatives.
Democratic consultant Gary Pearce tells the Daily Tar Heel, “(Politics) is obviously a whole new field to him, and he understands that it’s something you don’t just jump into without doing your homework. I think he’s going about it the right way.”
Pearce notes that Aiken, who was blocked from an Idol win by Ruben Studdard, has some equally large obstacles in his way this time. He says, “Obviously there are going to be some people in the district who would never vote for a gay candidate, but I suspect most of them would never vote for a Democrat, period."
