In an interview with BuzzFeed, Leah Remini reveals that she had one very big reason to leave the Church of Scientology last summer.
She said there were "dozens of influencing factors," but it ultimately came down to her daughter Sofia, who at nine years old was approaching the age when she would be required to be audited by the Church -- a process that involves a series of probing questions. Leah says, "In my house, it's family first -- but I was spending most of my time at the church. So, I was saying 'family first,' but I wasn't showing that. I didn't like the message that sent my daughter."
The King of Queens star says she tried to get her friends to change things, but "they only cared that their lives would be disrupted if they stood with me. They didn't care about doing the right thing."
One friend that has stood by her since she turned away from Scientology is Jennifer Lopez. Leah says, "Jennifer made special rings for all the women in her life that say, 'I Love Me.' I've really come to realize you have to love yourself before you can expect someone else to. You have to learn to believe you deserve love. And I'm getting there. I'm starting to believe it."
