Madonna is hoping the third time will be the charm -- she's climbing back into the director's chair after two flop flicks.
Madge has signed on to take the reins of Ade: A Love Story, an adaptation of a novel by Rebecca Walker -- whose mom, Alice Walker, is known for writing the classic The Color Purple. The storyline involves a young American feminist who falls in love with a Muslim man while on a humanitarian trip to Africa.
Madonna's previous efforts as a director did not fare well at the box office. 2008's Filth and Wisdom lasted just a few weeks in theaters, and the 2011 release W.E. grossed a mere $500,000 in ticket sales.
