DJ E-Z Rock Has Died

Rap star DJ E-Z Rock has died, according toa report from Rolling Stone. Born Rodney Bryce, '80s sensation E-Z Rock was best known for his collaboration with rapper Rob Base, which resulted in the 1988 hip-hop classic "It Takes Two."

Bryce and Base became friends in elementary school and soon started making music together. In 1986, they released their first record, DJ Interview, independently. It was not a success.

"We used to play it at parties, and people used to tell us to take it off," E-Z Rock told The Morning Call in 1991.

Two years later, though, the duo earned a label deal with "It Takes Two," built around a key bit from Lyn Collins's much-sampled "Think About It." The song hit No. 3 on the Billboard dance charts and has since become a prize sample itself, appearing in works by Snoop Dogg, Ciara and Girl Talk.

The duo's follow-up, "Get on the Dance Floor," was also a minor hit. E-Z Rock and Rob Base later teamed up for Base's 1994 album, Break of Dawn

The cause of E-Z Rock's death in unknown.
