Alanis Morissette thinks you oughta know who to vote for.
She's just released a new single titled "Today," which she wrote to be the official song ofMarianne Williamson’s congressional campaign in California’s District 33, which covers the coastal and mountain areas of L.A. County's west side. Alanis has been an avid supporter of the independent Williamson -- the author and motivational speaker -- and sang when she announced her candidacy last October. Alanis agreed to write a song for the campaign after giving a keynote speech on Williamson's behalf.
Alanis says she's tried to capture Williamson's "passion, mission, activism, deep humanity and tenderness" in the song, as well as the "new political sensibility she represents and the consciousness that produced it.” She says Williamson visited her and her bandmates during the recording and they "all huddled together. I love this song. I love this woman and I love a world that would vote for her.”
