Clay Aiken holds a slim lead in a North Carolina congressional primary -- but officials are still going through votes before declaring a winner in the tight race.
The American Idol fave, who's looking to represent his home district as a Democrat, leads former state commerce secretary Keith Crisco by fewer than 400 votes out of nearly 30,000 cast. Officials will tally absentee ballots before declaring the count official, and if the margin separating the two is less than one percent, the trailing candidate can request a recount.
Whoever wins faces a tough battle against incumbent Renee Elmers in the heavily Republican district.
