Get out the caxirolas — Jennifer Lopez is performing at the 2014 World Cup opening ceremonies in Brazil.
But scratch that: A rep for Lopez told People Tuesday, “Jennifer has always wanted to participate in the World Cup opening ceremonies. We have been trying to work out scheduling and logistics. Any statements to the contrary were premature. Jennifer would not want to disappoint her fans or fans of futbol. She will be there.”Reps for the singer say reports that she would be unable to attend the soccer extravaganza due to “production issues” were “premature” — even though Lopez’s campconfirmed that she was bowing out on Monday.
And late Tuesday, Lopez told The Associated Press that she was leaving for Brazil that evening. “We always were going,” she said. “I think people get anxious, especially with me and my schedule when I’m like, ‘Ah, OK, I can leave this day, that day, I don’t know if we can make it. …But we are definitely going.”
Lopez recorded the official song for this year’s World Cup, “We Are One (Ole Ola),” with Pitbull, who will also be performing at Thursday’s kickoff event. They’ll be joined by Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte and local cultural group Olodum.
