When partners Tamer Hamawi, Elise Rosenberg and Emelie Khilstrom opened Gran Electrica in the Dumbo area of Brooklyn, they quickly established it as a local hangout. They focused on serving fresh products and made their own tortillas in-house.

Hamawi’s wife, Blaire Scheibal, was born and raised in the Napa Valley. When the couple decided to move back to be near family, Hamawi started looking for a restaurant space. There was no specific intention to open another Mexican restaurant, but when Hamawi saw 1313 Main with its nooks and crannies, he realized it would be perfect for a new Gran Electrica.

About a quarter of the dishes on the menu from chef Ignacio Beltran, who is from Mexico and has spent time in the kitchens of Ad Hoc in Yountville and Meadowood in Napa, are from the Brooklyn restaurant. The rest of the dishes are Beltran’s own.
