Wine Down Media News

As a locally owned-and-operated media company, The Vine is committed to local public-interest journalism in the Napa Valley and brings Top of the Hour news every week day Monday through Friday from 6A-7P, including: breaking stories, latest news headlines, and highlights of the day with a hyper-focus on local. In addition, we deliver engaging and informative content that highlights the vibrant stories of our local community and in-depth podcast interviews

We are aiming to re-create local journalism by establishing the “Wine Down Media incubator” of new journalists in addition to increasing local reporting capacity, community engagement and access to coverage of critical issues facing Napa residents and businesses like mental health, climate change, education, housing, and LGBTQ+ amongst others.

About Barry Martin:

Barry Martin is our “Mr Jeopardy” who knows everything about everything. He has a remarkable media career working in Radio & TV as host/anchor.

Barry Martin came to Napa in 1986 to work for KVON/KVYN. After starting out as a DJ on The Vine, he went on to become Program Director and Operations Manager for both stations until 2001. In that year, Barry began working as the Public Information Officer for the Napa River Flood Project, and continued as morning show host on KVON until 2003. He spent the next 13 years doing public information, including nine years as the Community Outreach Coordinator for the City of Napa. In 2017, he was working in government as the City of Napa’s PIO helping navigate the “flood project;” after the devastating wildfires of that year and with new ownership at Wine Down Media he embarked on a news/talk show on KVON. A new lifeline for the community in times of disaster or not. In 2022, the morning show, “Wine Country Live,” re-vamped and moved to sister station KVYN.

Barry Martin Co-Founded the theatre company Lucky Penny Productions with Taylor Bartolucci, and together they produce plays and musicals at the Lucky Penny Community Arts Center in Napa. Barry is also an author of plays and has had his work chosen twice for short-play festivals.

He is the father of two Napa-raised kids, and has three grandchildren.
