I decided to head to the coast and return to my favorite hike and surf spot as a kid. For 30 years I’ve made it a point to keep this spot off the radar. As times change, I discovered it now comes up on Google when you ask Maps for a time check. Well, the cat’s out of the bag. The spot is known as Palomarin Trailhead. They actually put a state park with groomed trails, sort of. You can see in the photos I took a different trail…rather than the main trail, I prefer to drop straight down the cliff – just like I did when I was 16 years old. It’s a 300 ft vertical drop that will take you out, if you’re not skilled at advanced trekking. I don’t suggest you attempt my route. I saw a family on their way back up after turning around, and they looked scared. The payoff is a secluded cove or two, perhaps a waterfall and plenty of tide pools to explore.

Always remember … know your limitations and if in doubt, don’t go out! BSL
