Weatherford wine maker Texas Vineyard Market recently debuted a new wine made with hemp oil. Currently for sale in several liquor stores across north Texas, the wine is attracting attention to the winery.
It’s currently available to be shipped to 38 states.
Four differently flavored hemp wines have been released so far. Ron Mittelstedt, chairman of TVM wines, has said that the hemp oil increases smoothness and flavor.
Those flavors include Strawberry Daiquiri, Piña Colada, Rum and Cola, and Texas Tea. Names like Covert, Taboo, Fantasy, and Forbidden push the point home that these aren’t your usual wines. The blindfolded lady on the label is hard to miss.
Ron and wife Cindy own both Sweet Springs Winery and TVM. The hemp wine received approval from the DEA in Dec. 2017 after over two years of development.
There is no THC in the wine, the stuff in marijuana that gets one high, so there will be no positive drug tests in drinkers. This wine contains 12 percent alcohol by volume so it’s easier to enjoy.
Hemp wine can be sold in Texas, but hemp itself can’t be grown. It’s too similar to the marijuana plant.
